Interview tips, questions and answers

If you make it to the interview stage, the appointment will require some prep work on your part, but that doesn’t mean that you need to rehearse word-for-word answers. Instead, focus on your potential employer.

1) Do your research. Instead, focus on the employer and look at their social media/online presence in addition to reading about them in the media. If they don’t offer a great deal online, try asking someone who is familiar with the role you’d like.

2) Remember that hiring a young person is an investment. You often add strengths in tech, willingness, and flexibility. Interviews are a chance to showcase this. Write a list of questions that you’d like to ask during an interview. Think about what this organization/business/company is getting wrong or could do better.

On the day of the interview, plan to:

  1. Arrive early and alone

  2. Look professional

  3. Indicate a time when you may contact the employer to learn of the decision.

  4. Find out the timeline and if there will be additional interviews
